Sturgis Parents Association Sets Sail at SPAuction 2014

SPAuction 059SPAuction 2014 was a great success and turned out to be exactly how it was billed: “the social event of the season!” As you will see in the slideshow below,  a good time was had by all while fun-raising  to support Sturgis. Among many great auction items were: a one week stay at “The Osprey’s Nest” a luxurious private home in the Bahamas; 4 tickets to see the Boston Red Sox play the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park; a Bass & Blues fishing trip in Nantucket Sound aboard Daddy’s Toy.

All proceeds benefit Sturgis student programs on both campuses. In his letter to the Sturgis community, SPA President Sean Randall, (the guy in the captain’s hat)  describes how SPAuction proceeds will be used to support Sturgis programs and activities.

SPAauction2014 (1)Dear Sturgis Parents, Faculty, Staff and Friends,

On April 5th, 2014, we all celebrated a fun and magical evening as we “Set Sail with Sturgis,” our Annual Sturgis Parent Association Auction and Dinner Event.  We would like to express gratitude to parents, sponsors, volunteers, contributors and guests for making this year’s event a record breaking success; raising just over $43,000!

There are more than 36,000 public and private secondary schools across the United States.  Thanks in part to the support of our generous donors, there is only one secondary school ranked #1 in Massachusetts, #4 in the Northeast, and #84 in the U.S. by The Washington Post.

Your donations and participation in Sturgis Parent Association events makes an important difference for the students, faculty and staff at Sturgis Charter Public School providing direct financial support for:

  • Student clubs/after-school activities
  • Faculty/department program needs
  • Athletic department programs
  •  Information/Technology program needs
  • Scholarships

SPAuction 028With your financial support, we funded several programs including: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program ($20,000); Spring Arts Festival (East/West) at Cotuit Arts Center ($3,600); Student club/after-school activities ($3,000); Athletic Departments for uniforms and equipment ($2,000); and scholarships ($3,200).   In the coming days, the Sturgis faculty and executive leadership will submit a list of program needs to be funded by the Sturgis Parent Association in September 2014 – funds that were raised through your generous contributions and support.

It’s a great opportunity to be a part of the Sturgis experience for those students who benefit directly from your donation.  Thank you again for your partnership and support.  We are looking forward to setting a new record next year!

Sean Randall

President, Sturgis Parent Association
