Around the World in One Night

Congratulations to Sturgis Parents Association (SPA) leaders Kristine Jackson and Soraya Shenker for organizing the hugely successful 2017 Auction:  Around the World in One Night

SPA provided the following update about the 2017 auction for the Sturgis community:

Aaron Dunigan-AtLee Fund A Cause

Sturgis Parents Association’s 2017 Auction was sold out once again with three hundred guests enjoying a fabulous evening at the beautiful Ridge Club in Sandwich! Interactive bidding on fun items like the two-day overnight trip for Wicked Tuna and the customized Sturgis ping pong table drew Sturgis parents to the bid board, while Dr. Pete and Sturgis students shared their amazing work on the Sturgis dolphin carrier with guests. There was endless sushi, incredible food stations and gorgeous Student Advisory baskets drawing parents into the Silent Auction room. At the much-anticipated Live Auction event, parents enjoyed listening to the heartfelt and compassionate speech by Aaron Dunigan-Atlee, Sturgis East’s Lead Math teacher, on this year’s Fund-A-Cause, which raised $7,600 for new computers and IT upgrades!

Live Auction

We can all agree that the cause for this annual Sturgis event was well worth attending this year, as we successfully grossed just over $64,000 – setting a NEW RECORD! Net proceeds from this year’s auction will go directly to Sturgis Charter Public School to fund faculty and departmental requests, student activities and clubs, scholarships and more!

Our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the entire Auction Planning Committee, corporate and local business sponsors, faculty and staff, our auctioneer extraordinaire, Sean Randall and his comedian special guest, and to all the parent volunteers who generously contributed their time, talents and donations to help make this fundraising event such an overwhelming success for Sturgis!

Thank you again for your dedication and support of Sturgis and more importantly, for making a difference!

Additional SPA Activities to Support Sturgis

In addition to the annual auction, Sturgis Parents Association sponsors a number of activities throughout the year to benefit Sturgis students, faculty and parents:

SPA Provides Faculty Breakfast – August 2017

Faculty Breakfast on the first day of faculty orientation in August

Annual Boxwood Night in December

Annual Christmas Stroll on Main Street

Parents Social Events for parents to have an opportunity to meet one another

SPA President Kristine Jackson presents a check for $1,500 to Sturgis InvenTeam

Most importantly, all SPA fundraising supports faculty and departmental requests, student activities, clubs and scholarships. For example, SPA recently helped Sturgis InvenTeam’s marine mammal rescue transporter move a step closer to deployment. In March, SPA presented a check for $1,500 to Sturgis InvenTeam to support final modifications to the marine mammal rescue transporter so it can be deployed in stranding response missions by IFAW. Sturgis InvenTeam is collaborating with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare – IFAW to finalize the design and complete the project. Each organization is contributing $750.

The InvenTeam is grateful to Sturgis Parents Association, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and International Fund for Animal Welfare for bringing their dream of rescuing marine mammals closer to deployment.

Sturgis InvenTeam began in 2012, when a group of Sturgis West students received a grant from the Lemelson-MIT Foundation to build a prototype of a cart that could be used to save stranded animals.

SPA Faculty Appreciation Lunch

SPA leaders at Faculty Appreciation Lunch

Last but not least….on Wednesday, June 14, the Sturgis Parents Association once again outdid itself by providing outstanding faculty appreciation lunches at West and East. We want to thank the SPA for providing a great culinary experience that was so appreciated by the faculty. Yes, we do feel appreciated. Thanks so much!
