Ryan S. King      (Class of 2002)

Ryan King

After graduating from Sturgis in 2002, I attended UVM, in Burlington, Vermont, for four years.  I received my Bachelor in Science degree in English Education in 2006 with a minor in Special Education.  While in Vermont, I rowed for two years, was a participant in The Vagina Monologues three times, and studied abroad in Galway, Ireland, in the spring of 2005.  I also worked with a YMCA after school program, called the Live-Y’ers, in Underhill, Vermont, for three years while in college.

After I left Vermont, I moved to Somerville where I worked as a Special Education intern at a charter school in Cambridge.  In the fall of 2007, I enrolled in Boston College’s Lynch School of Education to pursue my Master’s Degree in Special Education.  During the summer of 2008, I taught English as a Foreign Language for 3 months in Chile through a program known as English Opens Doors.  In the spring of 2009, I returned to Sturgis, where I completed my graduate practicum.  I received my diploma from BC that May.

That fall, I was hired in Randolph as an 11th and 12th grade ELA co-teacher.  I still work in Randolph and currently live in South Boston.  I am one of the creators of the Nancy Gagne Memorial Scholarship, which will be first awarded in the spring of 2012.  I am working with several other alumnae to create a 10 Year Reunion Event and Fundraiser for this upcoming spring.

Christine LaFauci   (Class of 2004)

“You Are What You Eat” by Carly Larsson, Pratt Institute,-2011

Carly Larsson  (Class of 2010)

Currently living in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. I am a sophomore at Pratt Institute, majoring in communications design with a focus in illustration.

“You Are What You Eat” is a piece I created for my visual communications class. The requirements were to take a stance on the subject of money, design a subway poster for it, and choose an organization to hypothetically “sponsor” the message. I chose the subject of consumerism because of all the recent hype surrounding Occupy Wall Street. I took excerpts from the book Consumed by Benjamin Barber for the copy under the title. The “sponsor” for the message, Adbusters, is an anti-consumerist group based in Canada, and is the organization that called for the Occupation of Wall Street. The piece was created digitally using Adobe Illustrator.

Jacob Stapledon and Rebecca at the Delaware Water Gap on the Appalachian Trail

Jacob Stapledon (Class of 2003)

Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, BA in Psychology, minor in Criminal Justice: 2007

After graduating from Sturgis I attended MCLA in the Berkshires where a lot of my activities included the outdoors club. In my senior year in college I worked as an intern for The Key Program, Inc working in residential care with children and adolescents with mental health and behavioral difficulties. After graduating I went full time and worked as a supervisor there until this past fall when I began working for The Brien Center as a community outreach worker for adults with chronic mental health or substance abuse issues. I got married to my girlfriend, Rebecca who I was dating while at Sturgis from my sophomore year to now Before we got married in 2010, in 2009 we hiked approximately 1,500 miles of the Appalachian trail from Georgia to northern Connecticut. As you can likely tell, my interests and activities include as much outside activities as possible and Becky and I are planning on finishing the Appalachian Trail in 2012, then beginning another long distance trail. We hope to thru-hike the Long Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and the American Discovery Trail at different points.

David Stewart  (Class of 2006)

College/Work News: Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Plymouth State University with a degree in Communications and Media Studies. Currently, I am working as a Special Education aide at Washington Academy in East Machias, Maine. Also, my article “The Pulp of A Clockwork Orange” can be found in the Human Communications publication from the University of Alabama.

My personal interests are reading, writing, listening/playing music and meditating.

Memorable Moment: My first week of working as a film instructor at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, NH. At first, I was nervous as I was teaching those in my age group and felt like a certified nerd. However, when the conversations regarding film and semiotics started amongst the students, I felt like I was back in Mr. Marble’s English class when I was analyzing the prose of Kurt Vonnegut and Mark Twain. My memories of Sturgis have been embedded in my mind, and I continue to cherish those moments.

Kate Weeks    (Class of 2010)   I am a sophomore at Union College majoring in Math, minoring in French and looking forward to studying in France next fall.

Miranda White (Class of 2007)  I just graduated from Hollins University this May as a member of the class of 2011, with a BA in English and a concentration in Creative Writing. Right now I’m trying to get my first novel published, and I’ll probably be moving to Boston some time in December.  [See Travel Tales for more info!]
